I think a teen can grow up in a Christian family and believe all their life, until they hit that point where they start feeling the call to be independent. They look at their faith and for the first time they are looking at it through their own eyes not they eyes of there parents. They are looking at it with some life experience behind them. This is the point where they really choose it or loose it.
In some cases walk around like the good Christian they were raised to be but inside question if it is all hogwash.
Some show it some do not.

I don't worry as much for the ones who show it because we know where they are and can come up along side them. It is the quiet ones who say all the right things that I worry about.
