Ode to Jerry and Norton

I am not a cat person. There are a few cats over the years that I have met and liked. Two of the coolest cats ever where my dogs bests friends.

Cool cat number one lived next door to me. Norton thought she was a dog maybe that is why I liked her so much. When Lynn and I would take the dogs for a walk Norton would walk with us. Norton was the best mouser over the past few years Norton lost her teeth and her hearing was going she some how still managed to keep Lynn's house and my house clear of all mice. Norton was the constant companion of my friend Lynn for about 26 years when she strolled out of the wood and adopted Lynn as her human.

This past week when I returned home from the great adventure Lynn let me know that Norton was not doing well. She had been failing slowly over the past few months and the meds the vet gave her made her sick so Lynn decided to let Norton pass away comfortable and happy. Norton hunting pretty much to the end and was her normal self up until the very last few days. I was able to crawl under the bush that Norton was watching the world go by from and say good bye. That night she fell asleep with Lynn and passed away. Comfortable and happy. I wish we all could go like that.

Cool cat number 2 was Jerry. He needed a home and the Speers took him in. Jerry was raised with a very large dog and this made him behave rather dog like for a cat. It also made Jerry love to play with my dog. If I came into the house without Banshee Jerry would flick his tale at me. He loved to climb on her and sometimes even take a hold of her head in an affectionate bite. Jerry too had been failing. Jerry had a long loved life. A couple of weeks ago they made the choice to help Jerry be at peace.

Two of the coolest cats ever. My dog will miss them.
