Stepping Out From the Shattered Place

The Lord has had me on an incredible journey. I finally feel like I am stepping out from the shattered place into Gods healing hands.

Right is Right and Wrong is Wrong

A depressing night watching security tapes. The sad thing is I was watching the one girl I didn't think was giving away stuff and I added up almost $15.00 in stuff walking out the door.

$15.00 doesn't sound like much but when you take 15 and multiply it by 3, which is the number of nights a week she works, you get $45.00. You do the math for the year.

If each of the teens working at the store only let go $15.00 per shift that works out to about $180.00 per week and $9360.00 a year. $15.00 a shift is more then it looks like.

I know some of the other teens are giving away more then that. When the end of the year comes and there are no raises again maybe they will begin to understand. Loss of profit means less money, less money means no raise, but, I doubt it. They didn't figure it out last year. They just got more creative in how they steal.

There is an improvement from last year. Last year in one hour I watch as my co-workers gave away or took from the store about $50.00 in stuff.

I know they think it's no big deal and it isn't a lot of stuff. First stealing is stealing and it is wrong. They also think they won't get caught. They think that the camera is there but that it is not recording or the tapes are not watched. Even if the tapes are watched if they look like they used the register then how would anyone know what they rang up.

Well it is really boring to watch those tapes and they are right we can't see the buttons that they push but I have the register tape and I can see what they are putting on the counter and when a sale that should be over $7.00 is only in for $2.35 I notice.

We also notice when the sales for the day and the amount of cold drinks etc are not lining up.

I know that there is the cool factor involved in this and that is a large part of the reason for all the giving away of stuff. Is it better to be arrested for stealing and be cool or to do the job you are paid to do and charge your friends just like everyone else.

I would rather watch paint dry then watch these tape. For a year we have told them to knock it off and warned them. Now we are in the evidence collecting mode, what that means is those caught on tape if this is not the first warning they will be fired and arrested.

My boss and I both have a soft spot for teens we want to help them sometimes the only way to help them is punish them. An arrest record is not the root we wanted to go but, really, they have left us no choice. The store needs to make a profit and the teens need to learn that stealing is wrong.
