Stepping Out From the Shattered Place

The Lord has had me on an incredible journey. I finally feel like I am stepping out from the shattered place into Gods healing hands.

Well it's been a crazy

couple of weeks, what else is new. :-) My sister/friend is expecting her first baby. She told me by sending a picture of the test on my cell phone. I am really excited for her, well them! They live rather far from here so we are planning on me taking a trip out there in a month or two then again before the baby comes to help her set up her nest. Then again after the baby comes cause well I am the fella/fellets auntie after all. :-) She found out at her parent's house which was cool cause I was able to see her.

My former church is in an upheaval again. The youth director and his wife have taken a job in another state and will be leaving very soon. The need to leave is for the same reason that a number of other people have left or been asked to leave and it breaks my heart. I must admit there is a small tiny little bit of me that wants to say told you so told you so, to a few people. I did make peace with the youth director before I heard he gave notice and I can say that I did my best there. I can't say I love them but I can say that I no longer hate them. I feel sorry for them and what they went through. I am happy for them in that they got out and on their own terms.

I canceled small group tonight just adjusting to the idea that something that I love is sick and I don't know how long she has.

Drove an hour to work only to get there and find out that a bunny and a kitten have eaten all the cords to the computer, when I say all I mean ALL. Power cord for pc and monitor keyboard mouse you name it chewed through. I could do NOTHING! If they had told me before I went I may have found all the cables that I needed here I had a wireless mouse and keyboard with me. I was rather annoyed at that. So instead of working and being paid. I fixed their home pc. Spent 4 hours on it in fact and because I didn't know there was a problem I didn't have everything that I needed to fix it right. I got them working. The computer was suppose to be the office pc and was not hooked up to the net yet so I had not installed any antivirus or spyware protection. They took the thing over hooked it to the net and they didn't put any protection on it either. You can imagine what a mess I found.

The BBC has made a new version of Mansfield Park I read the book ages ago and did not remember it well. A few things struck me. 1) I didn't recall not liking the uncle in the this version he was a rather unlikeable man, 2)Fanny the main character was a women of faith. In this she seemed to be following some unknown path of right and wrong and in the book it was clear she was talking about the Holy Spirit being her guild. 3) I did not recall Mary being so calculating 4)There seemed to be many key characters left out.
I read the story again here

The uncle was kinder then they made him out to be, his motives tended to be good even if his actions seemed harsh. Mostly the BBC version left out his motives leaving harsh actions. Fanny was far more timid in the book the they totally changed her personality, she was a bit shy but far to out going and showed far to much affection to her cousin. Putting her arms around him brushing his hair with her fingers. In the book Fanny is Pious in fact she is often saying there is a better guild within all of us and we should listen to it. She makes several reference to the Holy Spirit in this way. Fanny's hair was often left free flowing which looked rather nice but never would have been. Fanny was not "out" during most of the story and propriety would have had her in a bonnet with neat hair hidden beneath the bonnet. Fanny's world was all about propriety and a serious breach of etiquette as this would not have happened in Fanny Prices world. Fanny never would have allowed it. Fanny's coming out ball was turned into a picnic and all of the significance of it was left out. One of the themes of the book is the clear difference (for the better) of the two characters who truly loved God verse those who do church on Sunday because society says they should. Edmund and Fanny live their faith and the difference in them is clearly seen in how they treat the others and how they view the others. In the end it is that faith and what is right and wrong that stops each of them from making big mistakes in the area of love. In Fanny's case she is proven right in her long resistance in Edmund's case it is his hesitation that prevents him from acting earlier in the story and by the end he can see clearly that Mary is not the women for him. The Grant's are left out of the story which is why Mary appears more calculation. Her sisters thoughts are given to her as well as her own. It would seem there was budget issues because one set is all there was. Which hurt the plot. One of the key elements of the story was when Fanny spent 3 months in Portsmouth with her parents and the shocking lack of love and compassion and many of the things that Fanny holds to be right and true. It shows her Uncles house with it's faults to be the truer kinder home where she is loved and loves. She grows as a person and learns to be more vocal in her efforts to help her younger sister learn right from wrong socially. The sister was written out. Aunt Norris was right on and great fun to watch she was as nasty and mean tempered and played perfectly by Maggie O'Neill

This was not a BAD movie, in fact it was entertaining and nice to watch. It is loosely on Jane Austin's book and if you like this type of feel good drama watch it when it airs in the states in November. Just don't expect it to be historically accurate or anything like the book. The acting was all good the sets are pretty it was not a waste of 90 mins. (in case you don't know me well that is high praise)

I find it interesting that someone thinks that a story that is so clearly based on faith should endeavor to so completely remove all aspects of that faith and think that is the right thing to do.
